Yes, it's been a while since I've seriously updated, and this post won't be a full update, but at least you'll know I'm (mostly) alive.

Please welcome new LJ friends from the last couple of months: [livejournal.com profile] krings_keep, [livejournal.com profile] alscott93, [livejournal.com profile] caitlindancer, [livejournal.com profile] perronelle, [livejournal.com profile] glynisgwynedd, and [livejournal.com profile] ostgardraine.

Happy Belated Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] hrldndva, [livejournal.com profile] mrgrumpybear, [livejournal.com profile] cats_mom, [livejournal.com profile] perronelle, [livejournal.com profile] psalite, [livejournal.com profile] kfitzwarin, and [livejournal.com profile] murasakinoyoroi (in order of birthday occurrence).

The first weekend of March, I went down to (Atlantian) Kingdom Arts & Sciences Festival, riding with [livejournal.com profile] jacylrin. As is often the case for events in southeast Virginia, I grabbed a weekend at the timeshare condo we own for crash space. As is also often the case, [livejournal.com profile] sister_devora and [livejournal.com profile] pedropadrao crashed there too. It was a fun event, even though there was far too much to do and far too many people to see in the limited time we had (more so than for the average SCA event). More Pelicans there than one could realistically count -- there to see Viscount Sir Tojenareum and Baron Arnbiorn get added to our order -- there were Pels there I hadn't seen in over ten years. I heard one say to another (Kiri and Alisoun, but don't remember which one said it): "This is like a high school reunion." There were also more LJers there than I can seriously hope to enumerate here.

The second weekend of March, I went to Hrim Schola, up in New York State, a little past Poughkeepsie. This is primarily a fiber arts event, and I'm not heavily into fiber arts although a lot of my friends are. But I had good reasons for going, and the weather was reasonably cooperative. We discovered that yes, the bench seat of the Town & Country rolls very easily up into the middle position once the middle seats are removed; nevertheless, trying to put three adults on the bench seat is not terribly comfy for more than short trips. Various methods were employed on the trip up and back in the attempt to minimize discomfort. During the event on Saturday, I got some ideas which may eventually flesh out into SCA classes about "The Science Behind A&S: How Stuff Works." Sunday, there was a brunch and Library Crawl at Mistress Thora's, which was also fun. During this, I had cause to look at a Poughkeepsie phone book, and discovered that yes, I do still have family living in the area -- even in the same house I visited back in 1975, though it's no longer my dad's uncle and aunt living there (they passed away a while back). I managed to forget my laptop in Pennsylvania; it's in a safe place, I just have to work out getting it back.

This past weekend I stayed in the FedroSplat after four straight weekends out of town. Went to dinner Friday night with [livejournal.com profile] blaisedec, [livejournal.com profile] nostasia, [livejournal.com profile] northernwalker, [livejournal.com profile] pedropadrao, [livejournal.com profile] sister_devora, and the latter's mother (in town for a conference). Spent Saturday meeting new people at a small party. Sang in church on Sunday ("Give Ear O Lord" by Heinrich Schütz; yes, the Mercenary Bass is back for the latter part of Lent, about which more later) then a Phi Mu Alpha meeting after lunch. [livejournal.com profile] montuos had gone up to Lunacon, and made it home around 10 PM.

(Minor rant: You'd think that the LiveJournal spellchecker would recognize "LJ" as something to be expected in a LiveJournal post, and not as a misspelling, right? I tried the LJ spell checker and got flagged for thirtygajillion uses of the abbreviation. *Including* inside pseudo-HTML tags! Sheesh.)

No one will ever accuse the LJ folks of being on the ball all the time.

Nah. They're too busy having fun with new features or other projects (like improving BML).
