Without regard to individual players, two of the rarest sights in baseball today are the inside-the-park home run and the unassisted triple play. What are the odds of seeing both in the *same game*?

Even stranger, the New York Mets *started* their at-bats in today's game with the former... and *ended* them by being victims of the latter. Phillies win 9-7.

If you wrote a piece of baseball fiction and included that, no one would believe you.

And both events were added to Wikipedia before I could look them up to know what you were talking about.

The runners were going (attempted double steal and/or hit-and-run), so the second baseman was moving to cover second. Lidge had to duck out of the way of the line drive; Bruntlet caught it in midair and landed right on second base for the second out, then had to chase Murphy down as the latter tried (unsuccessfully) to dance around the tag. What a way to end a game.
