...to keep us from going down to Williamsburg. We changed our reservations on Friday morning though, to include Friday night as well as Saturday, so that we could go down Friday and beat the weather.

Saturday, while DC was getting sideswiped by 4-ish inches of snow, Williamsburg was vacillating between plain rain and FREEZING rain. Richmond got nothing but freezing rain and ice. Good thing we went down on Friday... still had to stand out in the freezing rain and scrape quite an ice accumulation off all the car windows, in order to go out in the evening to eat at the Peking-B-Q and then see Ruddigore at PBK Hall on the W&M campus.

Weather notwithstanding, this was a "comfort" weekend for me... Going back to the 'Burg, which still feels like home despite my misgivings about some of the changes in the decor. Eating at one of my favorite places (and yes they asked after Tony -- after all they've known him since he was too little to walk). Seeing an old fraternity brother (Ben) in the lobby at PBK. And watching a play I've loved ever since I worked props for it my freshman year in college. Even the weather evoked memories, as we had similar nasty stuff when we did Ruddigore back then. We'd even had snow first, so the athletic field next to the theatre was under several inches of ice. Ben (who was in the cast then) slipped on the ice outside early on during rehearsals, doing a job on his ankle, and was on crutches all the way through the show's run, only getting off them as necessary for his performance.

Anyway, Saturday night the rain turned into snow and sleet. Woke up today and the sun had melted the rest of the ice of the east-facing side of the car, so went out and turned the car around to melt the other side. But boy was the wind icy! Nothing like Minnesotans are used to of course, but cold enough to slow down our pack-out considerably. We ate lunch at Second Street, another familiar haunt from back when we lived in the 'Burg. The trip home was basically without incident.

Now we're back home. Tony did us the great service of shoveling out the walk AND a curbside spot for the car. I'll deal with finishing the shoveling job tomorrow.

I can't get my email to let a reply go through. I'll try again (like everyday this week) tomorrow.
