People don't learn, do they?
Jun. 24th, 2006 12:43 amSome of you may remember the last Disclave, back in 1997, and The Incident that occurred at that hotel on the weekend of the convention.
A non-LJ friend pointed the following link out. If more of us remembered what happened at Disclave '97, maybe this wouldn't have happened: http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=d72a61f97240f346
He added the following comment: 'Say it with me now: "Hotel sprinkler heads are NOT load bearing..." '
(For those of you who don't know, a rundown of what happened in 1997 can be found in this report about Disclave '98 being canceled. For songs written about the incident, check out http://www.wsfa.org/journal/j97/6/index.htm as reported in
dandelionreport's LJ a couple of years ago. I wasn't at that convention, but another friend of ours phoned us from the scene while The Incident was still taking place. That has a way of sticking in one's memory, y'know?)
