Help!

Jun. 16th, 2008 12:08 am
OK... I'm posting this now in case someone finds it before I get out of bed.

Things did not go well on Thursday. The dead Toyota is still sitting in the driveway. My mechanic has made suggestions as to how I can get her wheels unfrozen. However, all of the suggestions end with the use of a vehicle that can tow 2000 pounds, and a tow chain (or preferably, a tow bar), with which to drag the car until the wheels break free and start rolling again. I don't have these items, and after blowing a large chunk of money to no avail last week, I'm hoping to *borrow* such equipment, if anyone here has it available local to me, or can point me in a useful direction. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Saturday: went to the mall's DMV office, took one look at the line and left. Went to gas up my car. Went to a store near the gas station to see if they had the OTC meds that I wanted (no). Went to another store on the way home -- they had the meds, though it turned out when I got home that they're expired. Went to the computer recycling place, gave them various old parts, discovered that they now charge $10 to take a monitor, took the two monitors with me because I didn't have the cash and wouldn't want to pay that anyway. Went home, hot and sticky and disgruntled.
Later, after the first thunderstorm, went back to the mall's DMV office and got the antique plates for the Toyota. Then to the store to pick up dinner and other food-like objects, during which the second thunderstorm occurred. Left the store to find it was raining again... but not so hard that I really minded walking through it to the van. Went home, put food away, prepped the asparagus, caught up with online stuff while [livejournal.com profile] montuos cooked. After dinner, made a fruitless trip to Lowe's, and a more fruitful stop at Target.

My original Pelican medallion was given away again on Saturday -- second time in less than 5 months. It's a legacy medallion, so whoever gets it is tasked to find someone to hand it down to. It took me four years to find someone who fit the criteria -- specifically, that a primary reason for the Pelican be heraldry, particularly research and education. I had given it to [livejournal.com profile] wanderingpixie in February; this week, she sent it out West to be given to [livejournal.com profile] cryptocosm (at [livejournal.com profile] hrj's request).

Sunday: sang at Sharon Chapel -- the choir's last Sunday before summer break. Also the last Sunday for our lead alto, who's moving to the Gulf Coast (her husband having been reassigned there). Also also the rector's 10th anniversary with the parish, so there was a picnic in her honor after the service. Got home from the picnic, took down the carport/pavilion poles, made one more shopping run (including slightly better luck at Lowe's). Called my dad to wish him a happy Fathers Day. Fielded my own Fathers Day greetings from [livejournal.com profile] killernurd, via IM.

Part of the phone call with my dad was to discuss the possibility of my going north tonight for a funeral tomorrow: my aunt (Mom's sister-in-law) died last week after a long illness. With gas prices the way they are, it wasn't an automatic decision; I'll have to work the numbers today before deciding. EDIT: yes, I'm going. I'll be back Wednesday. I may get some online time from my mom's computer, but most of tomorrow will be in New Jersey.
