(Originally posted to my GoFundMe, and backdated to the date of that original post. This is basically copied verbatim (modulo formatting), including the fundraising stuff at the end; I *was* posting to GoFundMe after all. Feel free to ignore those bits if you want. For today's episode of "SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 related PSA / traditional begging post mashup" I've got various links, some of which are related.
First up, a cautionary word about how the national infection rate curve is misleading, and some details about what can be done to slow the infection rate as places try to reopen.
The Risks - Know Them - Avoid Them
In terms of sheer mathematics (algebra AND geometry), I don't think the above article is granular enough. Some places outside metro New York that were exposed to the virus sooner may also be more on the downslope of the curve, but many more places are still on the UPslope, and those that are will continue to have coronavirus problems longer if they try to go back to "normal" too quickly. My best recommendation is to track the infection rates as locally as possible -- typically in the USA this will be county by county. Look at the trends in your own county and the counties immediately surrounding yours for the data most revelant to you.
US coronavirus map: Tracking the outbreak
Next up, a story about some folks with really ODD cases of the disease.
'Weird as hell’: the Covid-19 patients who have symptoms for months
And here's the blog post that the above article references:
Paul Garner: For 7 weeks I have been through a roller coaster of ill health, extreme emotions, and utter exhaustion
A couple more random articles regarding the pandemic, the latter of particular import to anyone with children:
Early Herd Immunity against COVID-19: A Dangerous Misconception
Dr. Scott Gottlieb says rare, 'unusual phenomena' affecting kids may be linked to coronavirus
Now it's time for the typical begging stuff. Anyone who's read any of these non-photo posts in the past several weeks can guess that next, before and in addition to the usual plea for help for ourselves, I'm going to ask those of you who are able to SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES that are still open. Help keep your local economy a little bit more afloat, as and if you can. And remember that once the worst of this has passed, locally owned businesses will be struggling to get back on their feet, so please be ready to patronize them as much as you can when it's time for them to reopen.
( Rest of the begging section is behind the cut. )
