(Originally posted to my GoFundMe, and backdated to the date of that original post. This is basically copied verbatim (modulo formatting), including the fundraising stuff at the end; I *was* posting to GoFundMe after all. Feel free to ignore those bits if you want. Link to the fundraiser will be provided in the comments and upon request.)

This time around in "SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 related PSA / traditional weblogging combined with begging post" here are some random links and maybe a bit of discourse thereon.

Starting with a comic:

As the lockdowns and stay-home orders are easing, here's some food for thought.

Lockdowns May Have Helped Prevent Half a Billion Coronavirus Cases

I'm not so sure the verb there should have been "postpone" instead of "prevent". Or at least some of both. SARS-COV-2 isn't going to just go away. Now that it's here, it seems to be something that's likely going to stick around for a very long time. What *postponing* infections does is make it more likely that people will catch it *after* effective treatments become available, and also more likely that an initial vaccine can be developed and administered before some of those people even catch it.

From the Science Dept., here's some possible explanation for why the current plague is so weird:

Coronavirus May Be a Blood Vessel Disease, Which Explains Everything

Florida, one of the states to reopen relatively early, has seen a spike in cases. But what it exactly means is up for debate. Yes, I Have Opinions on this. But I just don't want to get into that here.

Florida Sees Large Spike in Coronavirus Cases As State Tally Surpasses 60,100

A Month After Reopening, Florida Records Over 1,000 New Coronavirus Cases For Sixth Time In 7 Days

Just in time for summer, Florida's seeing a surge in coronavirus cases. But there's good news, too

As Florida reopens, how are we doing? These are the numbers to watch.

And, to end on a humorous note:

Maryland bar unveils social distancing tubes for drinkers

Now it's time for the typical begging stuff. Anyone who's read any of these non-photo posts in the past several weeks can guess that next, before and in addition to the usual plea for help for ourselves, I'm going to ask those of you who are able to SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES that are still open. Help keep your local economy a little bit more afloat, as and if you can. And remember that once the worst of this has passed, locally owned businesses will be struggling to get back on their feet, so please be ready to patronize them as much as you can when it's time for them to reopen. Please however, do so in a safe manner. Recent news shows that a lot of people, including some militant numbskulls VERY LOCAL to my parents, are acting quite UNintelligently about this. Don't be one of those.

Rest of the begging section is behind the cut. )
