Bits for the week
Mar. 11th, 2005 01:12 pmI have no idea what it was that made my eyes itch so badly the last couple of days. It wasn't the usual eye-gunk-itch that hits me when the local grass starts having sex in about a month. (And all the plants seem to be holding off on the sex bit, given the wacky weather we've had this winter.) Combine that with general stuffiness and gravel in the throat, and yesterday was less than fun. But the drugs I started last night seem to be helping, so I should be good to sing on Sunday.
Eight years ago yesterday, my mom's mother passed away. I keep hoping that the family will eventually recover. (Note to
CHS Concert Band plays in the District Festival competition tonight. The Symphonic Winds play tomorrow night. I'm being a good bandparent and chaperoning both trips even though Tony is only in the Concert Band. (And the Workshop Jazz, but they don't play this weekend -- they go NEXT weekend, see the forthcoming Shameless Plug for the Chantilly Jazz Festival.)
Our favorite local weather forecaster is on vacation this week. He picked a good week to go -- Mother Nature is toying with us. The weather hasn't matched the forecast for the last four days. Today, for example, was supposed to be cloudy with snow showers turning to rain before ending mid-afternoon. If there were clouds this morning, they were remarkably transparent and non-precipitative. And the temperature is already about 8 degrees higher than the predicted high for today. (Though it has clouded over now.)
