Primary Election Day

damontToday is this year's primary election day in Virginia. In VA, state and local elections are generally in odd-numbered years (unlike most states in the US). This year, we have races for governor, Lt. governor, Attorney General, and the House of Delegates. Plus some places may have local elections, but of there are any in Fairfax County they didn't have primaries for them. So my ballot consisted of precisely four races.
I've already voted. And man will I be glad (for a while) when the day is done. <rant>I am BLOODY SICK of all the political junk mail, and the political phone spam. GET THE HELL OUT MY ANSWERING MACHINE AND MY MAILBOX!!! Oh, and for once, get the road signs down within seven days as you are legally required to... sheesh.</rant>
One cynical observation: I would not be surprised to find that funding for some of the more extreme right-wing candidates in the local Republican primaries (for the House of Delegates seats) is coming from Democrats and liberal PACs -- the idea being that a more extreme Republican candidate makes it easier for the Democratic candidate to win in the general election. In those places where there are multiple Democrats vying for that party's nomination for a Delegate seat, I would not be surprised to see Republican and right-wing groups funding the more extreme left-wingers, for the complementary reason. Hey, I *did* say I was being cynical here.
