Easter weekend

Musically, everything went well for the weekend. Maundy Thursday we sang Aaron Copland's "Have Mercy On Us, O My Lord" for the anthem, reprising another number from my W&M Choir days. Good Friday we went all Renaissance on the congregation: Byrd's "Ave Verum Corpus", King João IV (of Portugal)'s "Crux Fidelis", and Tomas Luis de Victoria's "Vere Languores Nostros". Ron also sang a solo. Easter Vigil was mostly hymns (just a lot of them), with Amy doing "If God is for us" from Messiah as the anthem.

After the Vigil service [livejournal.com profile] killernurd and I headed northeast. Arrived in Allentown a little before 2, posted something in Russian, and crashed. Got up in time to shower and head over to STM for the 7:30 "sunrise" service; followed by breakfast and heading to First Presby with my mother, Murph, and [livejournal.com profile] killernurd. The anthem there was "He Is Not Here", a contemp-pop number by Russell Nagy.

Sunday afternoon, our friend Father Shane came down from Scranton after finishing up his late mass. Another friend of ours (particularly of Murph's) is also an RC priest, and he called mid-afternoon; it was interesting to hear the two priests talk shop. Once dinner was over and everything washed, [livejournal.com profile] killernurd and I headed home, arriving back in Chantilly a little after midnight.
