I'm reposting this from [livejournal.com profile] icewolf010, mostly for [livejournal.com profile] alienor who was supposed to be returning to the FedroSplat on Tuesday.

Snow, sleet and/or freezing rain likely from Monday evening through Wednesday.

Statement as of 2:47 PM EST on February 11, 2007

... Winter Storm Watch now in effect from Monday evening through Wednesday afternoon...

A low pressure system moving out of the plains states and developing off the southeast coast of the United States will affect the mid Atlantic early this week.

For northern and central Virginia... eastern West Virginia... Maryland west of the Bay... and the District of Columbia... light precipitation will begin Monday afternoon and Monday evening. Light snow will dominate northern Virginia... much of eastern West Virginia... and all except southern Maryland. Meanwhile... central Virginia and southern Maryland will likely see a mix of rain and snow showers at the onset of precipitation.

A significant winter precipitation event is expected over the mid Atlantic from late Monday night through Wednesday morning. Tuesday late afternoon and Tuesday night in particular will see heavy precipitation as the coastal low passes by just offshore.

The amount of cold air over the region will be the determining factor as to what the precipitation type is... in any one location. There is still great uncertainty as to the amount of cold air that will be over the region at the time of the heaviest precipitation. Nonetheless... a significant... high impact... winter weather event appears likely for much of the region.

It is important to emphasize that those with travel plans... decision makers... and planners should very closely monitor forecasts tonight and Monday. Over the next 24 hours... details about the amounts and timing of precipitation types with this winter storm system will become more clear.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow... sleet... or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or your local media outlet through the remainder of the weekend for the latest updates on this winter weather event.

We're good for TP — but we could probably use both bread and milk... ;>

As long as we are shoveled out by Friday morning, so we can fly down to FL on time, I'm good. If the weather continues horrible, we might just drive south on Thursday, creeping as far as we can as fast as we can. We do NOT want to be late.

Well, the weather forecast for Havertown, PA (outside of Philly) is for 4-8". I'm not impressed.

Still, we do have TP, HoCho, bread and milk.

I am hoping for a snow day, however. The kids deserve one. They've been good.

Yeah, I've been hearing the reports from up there... Parish, at last report, was over 110 inches, with still more expected overnight tonight.

And to think that [livejournal.com profile] killernurd's HS classmate, who hates cold, is now at SUNY-Oswego to study meteorology, and lake effect snow in particular. I guess he has a *LOT* of data to work with right now... or at least a lot of lake effect snow.

Of all the data to collect, Joe was most excited about class being cancelled. I guess all work and no play would make for a very dull weatherboy.

Hopefully you'll get your wish a little further north. Now they're saying it looks like it might be mostly sleet and ice around here. Of course, this could (and probably will) change several times before the storm actually gets here.
