Week in review
Jul. 2nd, 2007 10:31 amWell... it was a very hectic week, followed by a rather full weekend. Trying to prep the house to sleep four extra people is not easy, especially when it decides to rain just as I'm ready to start schlepping stuff out to the car and around to the shop. However, things did get managed, even if stuff ended up on top of the washing machine for a night.
Eight years ago when Jaelle and
vesilehti tied the knot, the minister who officiated at the wedding stayed at our house, along with her husband and their two kids. They now live in upstate New York. This year they won a half-week vacation in Williamsburg and decided to fill out the week by revisiting the FedroSplat. So Daði and Petra and Meg and Stu stayed with us for 3 nights. We visited the Udvar-Hazy Center (a/k/a the Smithsonian Air & Space Annex) and the National Zoo. My highlights at the zoo included the big cats basking in peculiar positions (and no I did *NOT* try to blazon most of them), all three pandas, the free-range golden lion tamarins mugging for the tourists, the many turtles in various places (including babies), and the invertebrate house. I'm sorry we didn't get to see the bird exhibit; but we were all pretty exhausted by the time we got back to the car as it was.
montuos's account of the zoo trip can be found here.
Once our friends were on their way back to NY, we were ready to be vegetables for a while. We did have another friend come over for dinner in the evening.
My mood is rather subdued due to the news about Sir Gauss, who according to
orlacarey was taken off the respirator yesterday afternoon; he was the knight marshal for Stierbach for a while before he moved to Storvik, and may well have been the senior active knight in Atlantia. I'm going to miss him, and I grieve for his family and kids who will miss him even more. My thanks to
mailechan for posting updates over the last couple of weeks.
