the Burt Carols...
Dec. 12th, 2004 10:58 pmBack in the days of my undergraduacy long ago (as Tom Lehrer once said), I sang in the college choir. For the December concerts each year, one of the subchoirs would sing one of the Burt carols -- carols written between 1922 and 1954, first by the Rev. B.G. Burt and later by his son Alfred. (Alfred's tunes became the more famous of the set; his father continued to write the lyrics until the mid-1940s.)
If you like religious Christmas songs but you've never heard these before, they're a treat. I've included here a link to the official Alfred Burt Carols website. Warning: it sucks down a fair bit of bandwidth. Too bad it doesn't give much attention to the earlier carols, but one takes what one can get at times.
