Yesterday's mail included a check from the IRS. (Tax refund, economic stimulus, doesn't matter.)

Yesterday, one minivan refused to start (admittedly, the starter has been fading slowly for a while now), and the other minivan's driver's window derailed when [livejournal.com profile] montuos tried to close it.

Coincidence? You must be *&^%$#@! kidding.

Laurie and I had just finished spending our stimulating checks when my car suddenly realized what was going on and decided it was time for the alternator to go.

Stupid delayed reaction.

Some cars aren't so quick on the uptake I guess. Sorry about that.

So, bets on the car repair guy's quote?

I claim $1200 +/- $100

Initial quote for the starter was parts plus 1 hour labor. New starter runs about $300 but I can likely get a remanufactured one for half that, and I may be calling junkyards as well.

As for the derailed window, no quote yet; I'm guessing that if it's just a case of getting it back on the rails, I can either do it myself, or it'll take my mechanic an hour.

Hm.
That was polite of them, to wait until you got the check.

My washing machine went out less than 5 minutes after I saw that mine had been deposited. I told James about the money, and it just.... kept.... beeping.

The cost to repair it would have been about $12 more than buying a new one.

It's all the computer chips in our various possessions talking to the magnetic strips on our bank cards. Fnord.

I'm surprised the computer chip in your car would talk to *anything*... my car day yesterday was bad but yours really takes the cake.
