This will only make sense to a subset of the SCAdians in the audience. Still...

I have one SCAdian co-worker, who doesn't work at this office. The Boss was on the phone with him yesterday, sitting behind me. At one point she said, "Of course it's your fault. Everything is ultimately your fault. Didn't you read the fine print in your contract when you signed it?"

I immediately blurted, "Just who do you think he is, John the Pell?"

She was confused of course. I told her she wouldn't understand it, but to pass what I said on to my co-worker. Which she did... and much sporfling on the other end apparently ensued. (ETA: in case anyone was wondering, my co-worker is *not* John the Pell.)

Have I ever told you my John the Pell in My Pants story? It's a good one.

I'm going to assume that this song [http://www-cs.canisius.edu/~salley/Bard.book/solution.html] explains the reference, but there are probably stories that explain the song.

The song came about as one of many references to "It's all John the Pell's Fault" -- an idea which dates back to the early days of the SCA group in Ithaca NY.

Oddly enough, it is STILL John the Pell's fault in certain circles.

The good thing for John is that he is no longer the only scapegoat. I suppose you have to have SOME perks later in life. ;)

We saw him a couple of weeks ago.

I had actually never met him formally, but he is dear to Alethea.

I heard that it was all John the Pell's fault back when Sterlynge Vayle was part of the East and again when it became Æthelmearc. It's very cool that this truism is also known in Atlantia and beyond!

John the Pell is *well* known, as it is all his fault! (at least where the reading of fine print on the contracts is concerned. Ask the King of the East about that particular...incident.)
