In honor of Ada Lovelace Day

fabricdragon and
pedropadrao have noted, today is Ada Lovelace Day, named for the 19th century mathematician and one of the early proto-programmers. As I understand it, the idea is to post about a prominent female science/technology type. I've met a few of these... but the one who truly stands out for me is the one who spoke at my (undergrad) college graduation: Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, USNR. She came to my department's reception after the big ceremony (I was a Comp Sci major), so we got to talk with her some. But the best part of the whole thing was at the big ceremony, when someone popped a champagne bottle as she was coming to the podium to speak. The cork landed in the flowers just in front of the podium, just missing her. She then said something that had us ROFL... and now none of us can remember just what she said!
