What this journal is all about...

It seemed appropriate to me to have an introductory entry for this blog.

I may not write to this journal with great frequency. The world in general is depressing enough that I don't want to add to the weight by posting about the unhappy or even totally dull/mundane parts of my life. And those of you who know me well enough probably know that the above description accounts for most of my existence right now.

But... I remember.

And even now, it's not all uniformly blah.

One of my favorite hymns of all time starts like this:
"For the beauty of the earth; For the glory of the skies;
For the love which from our birth over and around us lies..." (W.C.Dix)

So most of what I'm likely to post is the snippets of joy, beauty, love, and so on that I come across. With occasional forays into the quirks of the universe: the silly or the downright weird, the strange and charmed. (No wait, those last two are some of the qu_a_rks of the universe. Sorry.)

So grab a strap and hang on as we ride off into the world.

Orange retail therapy

As some of you know, my favorite color is pure orange. Earlier this summer, I indulged in some intense Retail Therapy -- rather out of character for me, but I discovered that Target had lots of summer gear available in my shade of orange. I'd never seen such a selection in my color before, and anticipating that I might never see such again in my lifetime, I exited the store with half a dozen assorted coolers and some other orange stuff...
