(Originally posted to my GoFundMe earlier today, so I didn't bother to change the timestamp. This is basically copied verbatim (modulo formatting), including the fundraising stuff at the end; I *was* posting to GoFundMe after all. Feel free to ignore those bits if you want. Link to the fundraiser will be provided in the comments and upon request.)
Okay, got some more Links From All Over that I want to post here in "SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 related PSA / traditional weblogging meets the usual begging post" for the first time in almost a month. Subtopics are all over the map, so hang one it' might be a bit of a bumpy ride.
Just in case you didn't already know how mean and nasty this virus is, here's yet more cvidence...
How the Coronavirus Attacks the Brain
Is anyone really surprised at this next one?
Covid-19 risk linked to restaurant dining: CDC study
From the Unexpected Knock-on Effects Dept.:
Why COVID-19 made weather forecasts less reliable
And lastly, from the WEAR YOUR %$#@! MASK DAMMIT! Dept.:
Connecticut to issue $100 fine for not wearing a mask
Why Masks Work BETTER Than You'd Think
The above YouTube video links to the following, which is a great interactive page where you can fiddle with mask effectiveness and how many people wear them and other factors to see how that affects the spread of the disease.
The Multiplicative Power of Masks
After all that it's time for the usual begging part of this post. As anyone who's been reading these posts can guess, before and in addition to the usual plea for help for ourselves, I'm going to ask those of you who are able to SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES. Some businesses were essential and never closed during the lockdowns. Others, after having opened back up, are now trying to stay open to what extent they can as we struggle through various phases of "reopening" including going back to more restrictions as needed. So please do what you can to help keep your local economy a little bit more afloat. Locally owned businesses are, and will continue to be, struggling to survive and get back on their feet, so please patronize them as much as you can. BUY LOCAL. Please however, do so in a safe manner. Keep on wearing masks and other protective equipment when going shopping in person, continue social distancing. Act intelligently, because I know you can.
( Rest of the begging stuff is behind the cut. )
