Okay, so I'm being a band parent by making this plug. But aside from that, I do like to hear good jazz from time to time. This coming Friday and Saturday, March 18th and 19th, I'll get a surfeit of it. And I'm inviting you all to join me! Admission to the event is FREE! (If you're not going to be in the DC fedrosplat then, oh well...)

Chantilly High School hosts the 2005 Chantilly Invitational Jazz Festival this coming weekend, at the school. Snacks and drinks will be available on site from our intrepid fund raising crew. (Hey [livejournal.com profile] rufinia, d'you mind if we steal that "cookie-shaped hole in your life" line? I love it!) Proceeds from the concessions go to support the Chantilly Bands and the Color Guard. But coming in to hear the music is free!

On Friday the 18th we'll be starting at 4:30 PM, first with middle school big bands, then some of the "second" big bands from high schools that have two, with a performance from the CHS Workshop Jazz. The evening portion features small jazz combos from area high schools. The last performance on Friday should end about 10 pm. And it's all free!

Saturday the 19th is devoted to big bands from area high schools. The first performance starts at 8:30 am. At 12 noon there will be a performance of our special guest band, the Alan Baylock Jazz Orchestra. The preliminary round concludes at 6 pm with the Chantilly Jazz. In the evening the top three big bands play again in the final-round "Battle of the Big Bands" starting at 7:30 pm and ending about 9 pm. And it is free. Besides, it is free. It doesn't cost anything, either.

Come out to the Chantilly Invitational Jazz Festival (I'm sorry that the page hasn't been updated recently but I don't have edit rights to it.)

By all means! I started using it when I was working at Aramanthra the Vicious' coffee and baked good merchant booth about five years ago... it's fun!

As an Isenfiri-in-Exile, I oughta share in the rights to that quote...
