CHS Drumline is at Worlds!
Apr. 14th, 2005 02:19 amThe indoor marching season reaches its climax this weekend in Dayton, Ohio. So
killernurd and his drumline-mates in the Chantilly High School Indoor Percussion Ensembles are out there now, hopefully getting some shuteye before competing in the WGI Indoor Percussion World Championships. Preliminary rounds are Thursday (A class in the morning, Open class in the afternoon); A-class semifinal round is Thursday night; Open class semifinal round is Friday morning; A-class finals are Friday night, and Open class finals are Saturday morning. (There is also World class which is higher than Open.)
I went over at noon Wednesday to help load the truck, which should have just arrived... to find that the truck had arrived an hour early and was mostly loaded. We did scramble for a while after that, however, finding things that had been forgotten (like ALL THE CYMBALS?...) and generally making sure that everything they needed was really and truly going.
CHS is going in two buses, with Edison HS taking up the rest of the second bus. Both buses were supposed to arrive at CHS at 1230. The buses left the lot in MD at the same time. One was supposed to go pick up the Edison drumline; the other developed trouble and had to be replaced at Manassas, but nevertheless got to CHS early. The other one (coming from Edison HS) showed up at 14-frickin-45, and had kept the poor kids from Edison waiting around from 1100 (the expected bus arrival there) until 1330. And the driver kept ignoring the dispatcher... Consensus of the band directors and band parents is that we will need to borrow an Anvil from
faheud... unless we decide we'd rather give the bozo an Orange instead.
But, they left about 1500 this afternoon, stopped for dinner at 1830 and expected to get into Dayton about midnight. So, hopefully, everyone's asleep by now. Unfortunately they are in the same hotel as they were in February, as described in this post (vague TMI warning) --
killernurd and several friends swore they would rather sleep in the bus this time.
They expect to get back around 0600 Sunday m@^#!&g, though the truck may be able to leave earlier and get back maybe as early as midnight Saturday night. Until then, I wish them all the best.
