Looooooooong day. [livejournal.com profile] montuos and [livejournal.com profile] killernurd and I were actually out of the house just a little after 0700, and we got back a bit more than 18 hours later.

Got to the site in good order. Of those in our bunch who were staying for feast, we were the first to check in, so we signed up for a table. Helped unload the White Wolf and Phoenix stuff from their van, got the pavilion roof up on the four corner poles, and then headed to the list field to find heralds. Found them, put my stuff down at the point, went to sign up to announce bouts, found [livejournal.com profile] pedropadrao and pointed him at the herald table. Once the tourney started I was there doing list-heraldry for the duration.

After the tourney was over I managed to find Eogan (Triton Principal Herald) and we had a talk about the in-kingdom heraldic submissions process and the direction I felt it should take, with an eye toward educating the next generation of heralds and getting them more involved in both internal AND external commentary. (This was on the heels of a conversation I'd had with Istvan and [livejournal.com profile] kyleri last month, and also the intent of the new Laurel Queen of Arms w/r/t the College of Arms external commentary process.)

After that, took Roswitha over to the Fabric Dragon booth where she spent money, helped pack down and unload the booth, got over to the feast rather late, managed to eat something, and then packed up and headed home.

Sports report: Count Janos (who only recently stepped down as King of Atlantia) defeated Count Valharic (former King of the Middle) 2-0 in the finals. Janos defeated Bryan of Sacred Stone (also called Dammuth) in one semifinal, while Valharic beat Mungoe MacKlinchey in the other. So we had two unbelted contestants reach the semi's, only to have each lose to a Count (the only two former Kings in the tourney). There were only six Knights total in the field of 31, the other four being ousted fairly late in the going. (Personal opinion: Since Janos had already beaten Bryan once, I'd have liked to see a different semifinal pairing, but that's how it goes.)

I was reminded why I prefer to camp at Crown Tourneys. I don't normally concern myself with the heavy fighting at an event, and when I do, I'm only involved with a small bit of it. But Crown is one of the few events in Atlantia where each bout is heralded, so I tend to be a list herald, and it sucks up the whole middle of the day. That doesn't leave a lot of time to say hello to folks if I'm daytripping. Camping gives me more time to see people and talk to them, and in general will have me leaving Crown Tourney feeling that I've accomplished what I set out to do.

That, of course, was NOT going to happen this time. Among other reasons, we had [livejournal.com profile] killernurd's sweetie along, who is allergic to thirty thousand gazillion things; camping, for her, is Right Out. So while I spotted many people, and did manage to say hello to some of them, I didn't have a chance to truly catch up with any of them -- *especially* when I haven't seen most of them since Twelfth Night. And so we left the event after dinner (it was past 10 pm by the time we were all packed up and ready to go)... but a part of me is saying "but the day can't be over, think of all the people you didn't get to catch up with!" The fact that many of these folks had already left the site themselves is immaterial, of course. There's also some lingering grumbles from my inner Pelican about not staying to help clean the kitchen. I knew from the start that I wouldn't be able to, but that doesn't stop the grumbling, it only gives me a serious excuse to tell the inner Pelican to go STFU for once.

So, to [livejournal.com profile] aimee_white, [livejournal.com profile] strawberrykaren, [livejournal.com profile] severus_bracae and [livejournal.com profile] luscious_purple (and anyone else whose LJ name I maybe don't know), sorry that I didn't get the chance to chat. Perhaps I'll have better luck next time.

No worries -- I was busy with KMoASsery most of the day, and it was good to see y'all too. (We ended up leaving earlier than planned; it was a long day for our friend the Viking.) [livejournal.com profile] killernurd's sweetie looked eerily like my youngest sister, except taller; she is likewise allergic to just about everything.
