It's been raining off and on all day. I guess it's reminding us that we're in Williamsburg.

Got out of the house plenty early yesterday, but I've never seen so many dump trucks heading south on route 28. It took me an hour and a half to get to the other side of Manassas. Sailing was pretty smooth after that, but I still had two errands to run en route -- one outside Fredericksburg, the other on the west end of Richmond -- so did not get to the 'Burg until half past noon. Found where everyone was, got lunch, and we all went off to the first rehearsal. With a break for dinner, we rehearsed for about four and a half hours yesterday -- after which we were all pretty tired.

Today we started warming up at 0930. Morning rehearsal ran half an hour long; afternoon rehearsal ran 90 minutes long, so all told today we rehearsed for almost SIX hours. Ouch.

One of the numbers we are doing is Mozart's "Regina Coeli" (yes he wrote more than one of these, we're doing the best known one), which requires a "sologroup" -- a SATB quartet. None of the tenors were willing to volunteer for the quartet. However, I knew that part from having roomed with the tenor soloist at a choral festival somewhere in the distant past, and it's within my range. (Only three F's, and nothing higher.) So I bit the bullet and volunteered to do the tenor. Mind you, for the rest of the concert I'm singing with the second basses! This will require keeping my URT wide open, no clogs -- so I'm being VERY strict with myself about keeping on schedule with the Gener-afed and the Clari-clone. Especially as Williamsburg in the spring has on occasion been worse than usual on my plantsex allergies. (But not always. Which is why it's confusing.)

Anyway, I'm here and in one piece. Have managed to de-spam the email inbox, but will not get much of a chance to catch up on LJ due to the extra two hours of rehearsal... better luck on Sunday, I hope.

Hey, I'm going to go to a college newspaper reunion this weekend. We probably had similarly intense participation in these groups when we were college students. Thing is, we probably won't be singing unless we get extremely smashed. :-)
