The space between weekends...
Nov. 22nd, 2005 09:50 am...is shorter this week because of the Thanksgiving holiday in the USA. That doesn't stop it from sucking, though. The weekends themselves seem to be a good deal less sucky, however.
The weekend just gone by went about as expected from my perspective. Saturday was Stierbach Holiday Faire. Attempted to get up far too early, but in the end didn't make it to the site until about the time it opened. I spent most of the next few hours at the registration table, alternating "sitting and checking people in" with "standing, directing traffic and passing the waiver sheet around to expedite everything". I was asked numerous times to cry the halls, and I acquiesced twice -- but I really do wish they wouldn't ask someone who was clearly working Troll! I also wish they'd set up an actual *schedule* for cries, especially with *three* areas needing cries (we were in two separate buildings plus the outside area where archery and combat were happening). (If you cry the hall too often, people STOP LISTENING... too many autocrats etc. don't seem to understand that.)
I did eventually get to make a circuit of the halls, checking out the merchants. In the end the only thing I bought was at the silent auction. However, I did get the chance to talk to (in no particular order)
stitchwhich,
fuzzface00,
killernurd,
mllw_yllw_cello,
luscious_purple, Kirsten of Fabric Dragon, a couple of former Stierbach seneschals (AnneE and Miriam), various Bright Hills folks (and their generous hospitality), the usual Stierbach suspects, and too many others to list here. I didn't get nearly long enough to mingle with everyone, but that's always the case at Holiday Faire since I'm generally working the event in some fashion.
Sunday, after another mostly incoherent morning, I went and picked up Daniel de Lincoln at his parents' residence and we went to Bowie for Jaelle's party (hosted by Rorik and Janina). This was far more relaxed than Saturday, and at this point I've known all the attendees for quite a while. LJers among the partiers were
bunnyjadwiga,
alphaggek,
pedropadrao,
sister_devora (all four of whom I'd also seen on Saturday),
kyleri,
fosveny,
mamaalanna,
mrw372435,
herveus and I hope I haven't forgotten anyone -- and I'll see most of them again this coming weekend at Darkover.
EDIT:Sorry about forgetting people (Blaise, Nostasia, Karen, Akiyo, et cetera) -- it's been that kind of a day.
Monday saw the beginning of some rather horrid weather, plus the house is misbehaving and I really would rather not be dealing with all this, and I just don't want to talk about it right now. If the weather allows, we'll be going to my family home for Thanksgiving, and thence to Darkover for the weekend, and that will be better.
