So... today at Sharon Chapel the choir sang a setting of "Hail to the Lord's Anointed" -- which was about the right speed for us, given that our lead soprano was in Bethlehem PA for the weekend. Considering the 8 inches of snow the Lehigh Valley got, I hope Amy made it there and back all right. After church we assembled sandwiches and boiled eggs for Sunday Suppers, who provides food for the homeless on Sunday evenings at a couple of spots in the District.

Today is the Third Sunday of Advent in the Western Christian churches -- it's the earliest possible date for it (since Christmas itself is on a Sunday). Which is why it feels odd to celebrate it this early. The third Sunday of Advent is called Gaudete Sunday, for the overall emphasis of this particular Advent day is heavier on the joy and not quite so much on the repentance. It is fitting that, in the W&M college calendar, Gaudete Sunday usually fell during final exams -- talk about getting a much-needed respite! Today is the day I typically break out the Messiah recording and play at least the first four movements.

No, I don't have the lights up yet. I'm working on it. Lights aren't di rigore until Santa Lucia anyway, and that's the 13th (Tuesday).

Hi--maybe a voice from the past?

Just found you through the William and Mary LJ filter and I see you were in choir, as was I. Were we there at the same time? I graduated in '87.

We at least sang together a couple of times... I graduated in May '85, and was in the U.Va. University Singers from 85-87 -- we did joint concerts with the Choir in each of those two years.

If you were in the Choir your sophomore year, then we were in at the same time, otherwise not, but in any event I'm sure we knew a lot of the same people!

Only one person I know who sang with Choir, then the U. Singers! Hey! How are you!? I actually figured out who you are last night by looking at [personal profile] montuos's LJ. I was in my sophomore year but you're right--since you were a senior, we didn't really know each other, but we do know a lot of the same people. Dear FTL. How I miss him, but he is always with us in spirit.

Nice to "see" you--it seems you both are well.

Here's where I'm singing these days: http;//www.virginiaconsort.org

Take care!

I remember hearing about the Virginia Consort from friends in C'ville -- I think they go to the concerts. Excellent!

Singing at Sharon Chapel (an Episcopalian parish) brings back a lot of memories of FTL, and singing or playing my trombone for Evensong at Bruton. Yes, he'll always be with us in spirit.

You and [livejournal.com profile] montuos were freshmen together... which freshman hall were you in?

I was in Barrett and I sang in the Chorus that year.
