January Thaw is definitely here

Nice weather we're having... but is it really abnormal?

So many times in the past week I've heard the weather and news folks talk about the forecast temperatures being "abnormally high" for this time of year. It seems they've all forgotten about "January Thaw." More often than not, we get a run in late January of *rather* warm weather, such as we're having now -- and often even warmer! So I regard this as normal. What isn't normal is that the "non-thaw" weather is warmer than average, more like the early parts of 1998-99 than the last few years.

Today in particular is a gift, since it was supposed to be clouding up and starting to rain already. I really needed some nice weather to help mitigate the blues I had last week. Once I've gotten a phone call done, I'm going to take advantage of the sunshine while I've got it and walk for a while... then come back and get some cover letters written out to go with the resume.

P.S. in case [livejournal.com profile] badfae reads this: let me know if you want a bump for your WKoL show. I know Cierra likes bass voices; how about you? *grin*

Sending any my way?

Yep; they should be in your inbox by morning.

What sort of position are you looking for, if I may ask?

Computer and/or editing/publishing related stuff. My situation is a bit weird in that I'm looking for a "day job" to support me while I'm working on programming and other computer-related stuff for a very small and cash-poor startup. I can send you the resume I gave [livejournal.com profile] luscious_purple if you want to see what I've done in the past, but what I'm aiming for is something of a departure from past stuff, partially in order to protect the startup.

Ah well, I'm not sure I could help you much with that.

The oddity is that it's everywhere - even places it's not supposed to happen. Like here.

That, I'll grant. But the weather folks around here are not talking about out where you are. They're grumbling about it like it never happens *right here in the northeast* -- where more folks get weirded out when January Thaw *doesn't* occur than when it does.

(Though today, Tuesday, is considerably chillier in the eastern US. Like almost 20 degrees colder. No one ever said January Thaw lasted much into February. And it's expected to rain on the event this weekend, but at least it'll be *rain* and not something even less tractable.)

I'm woefully behind on LJ...but Akiyo told me about this entry last night...

...and I forgot to come over to comment until today. Heh.

I have no particular bass/tenor preference, but I'd looooove a bump :)

Well then, I shall come up with a bump for you.
