stuck in PA
Jul. 11th, 2006 01:21 pmI'm still in Pennsylvania, awaiting the completion of repairs vehicular.
So the original plan for the weekend was to go to the birthday party for
math5 et aliae, then help
alphaggek schlep bulky power tool type things over to the new place in our van. All this came to naught when the van's engine stopped running shortly before Delaware. The starter worked, but no fuel was getting to the engine.
alphaggek found a shop near their place that had the fuel pump in stock, so we had it towed there. We spent the night at R+S's new place (which is very nice, by the way), and on Sunday accompanied them on an expedition for minor but necessary hardware bits (e.g. curtain rods for the showers, that sort of thing).
Well, turns out that our van's fuel pump *may* be just fine. However, it wasn't getting any electricity to tell it to work. That's because the *timing belt* had either broken or fallen off. That part they had to order, which meant the job wouldn't be finished on Sunday. So we got
montuos on a train back to the FedroSplat. As it turned out, the timing belt didn't come in yesterday either.
I'm now waiting to hear from them as to when today's parts delivery arrived, and if they discovered anything else wrong such as the timing belt tensioner or the water pump -- both of which should be replaced at the same time as the timing belt if they're too worn out, even if they still work, because it's no extra labor to do them at the same time... but another 5 hours of labor if one dies *later*. They are reasonably sure the van should be done by 8 pm today, but if they haven't called by 3, I'll call them back to make certain.
EDIT 11Jul06 1610: The shop doesn't have the part yet, and the service manager has sent out an APBWTF. In any event, there's no way they can finish the job today.
EDIT 12Jul06 1540: The parts *just* arrived, and work will commence tomorrow morning. With luck it'll be done by 1400 tomorrow.
This mess has played hob with ideas for this coming weekend, as I have losttwo or more four days for cleaning. While seeing Cars and PotC:DMC would still be nice, we can't really host Doing Nothing in between. I'll let folks know when I get home safe.
